Dragon Fountain @ Whampoa Drive; Singapore

In between some HBD blocks in Whampoa Drive stands a mighty dragon. Back in the 1970s and 1980s the 4 metre/3 storey tall dragon was a fountain, spouting water from its mouth. But due to poor maintenance, and the ever present danger of dengue due to mosquitos breeding in stagnant water, the once fountain is now a centre piece statue in the courtyards of the HDB blocks.

This dragon, although has fallen prey to weathering, is in a much better state than the Dragon Pillar in Toa Payoh. It stands tall, reaching for the sky.

I would believe that the Dragon Fountain (well now a statue) does affect the energy in Whampoa, balancing it and making it more beneficial for the residents and thus creating good chi and Feng Shui.

The dragon's scales are a combination of pink, red and jade-green tiles, mixed in with broken pieces of porcelian bowls and marbles.

It is an incredible monument of Singapore's past. And as well as a unique art piece adding not only colour but a cultural touch to Whampoa Drive.

The Dragon Fountain is located at:

Blk 85 Whampoa Drive, Singapore 320085
