Angat Dam @ Barangay San Lorenzo, Norzagaray, Bulcan; Philippines

Need a quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city, but don't want to travel too far to get to a scenery of green hugged by the mountains? Since La Mesa Watershed tends to attracts a crowd,  Angat Dam and the Angat Eco Park may just be the place for you to go.

Because of the name you'd probably think that the dam is located in Angat, Bulacan because of its name, but the dam is actually located in Norzagaray, Bulacan. It gets its name from the Angat River, the source of its water (Angat Lake was created because of the dam).

The dam has a total height of 131 metres from its base to its highest point.

Angat supplies 90% of Metro Manila's water; and also supplies power to the metro and nearby areas (Angat Dam also a hydroelectric power plant in case you didn't know).

Surrounding the dam is the Angat Rainforest and Ecological Park. It is part of the Angat Watershed and a protected area which also supports a variety of wildlife of the Sierra Madre mountain range. About 290 species of plants can be found in the park; 43 bird species live in its forests, and 66 other animals also call it home. The most famous of the birds being the Luzon Hornbill, locally known as Kalao. And of which I wasn't able to take a photo of, because either they fly really fast or my camera wasn't quick enough to take the shot. Next time I'll be on the lookout.

I was there on a good day, the water level was high and it was just about the start of the rainy season so everything was green. Plus it was a nice escape from the heat in the metro. The weather in Angat Dam that day was just the right amount of coolness and windiness.

Angat Dam, provides a great escape from the city and a place to breathe fresh mountain air that's not as crowded as La Mesa Watershed. And because of the terrain, hikers and trekkers a like will enjoy the paths. I know I did.

Angat Dam is located at:

Barangay San Lorenzo, Norzagaray, Bulacan

Operating Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm

*There is a PHP 25.00 per head that you pay at the main entrance.
