Punggol Waterway; Singapore

The Punggol Waterway was the product of an idea to connet the 2 water reservoirs in Singapore. The waterway has been recognized, not only by countries in South East Asia, but all over the world, for its, not only innovative design but for it's green eco-friendly design as well.

The waterway also provides a place for people to exercise, walk around, have a picnic or just go explore and be around nature. A lot of the plants and trees that have been planted along the waterway are all native to the South-East Asian region, ensuring that they are all climate resilient, making the waterway not only beautiful, but ecologically healthy as well. A lot of native wildlife species also call the waterway home. You'll see river otters swimming and playing along the banks, herons, egrets and other wetland birds hunting for fish and raising their young, monitor lizards patroling the banks of the waterway as well as the very occasional turtles you'll see popping out of the water to come up for air.

Take as many photos of the wildlife as you like, but remember they are wild animals and deserve your respect. As long as you don't do anything to bother them, they won't bother you too. It's all about respect.

The waterway acts as an oasis and a refreshing artery of green that cuts through the HDBs, condominiums and schools that have been built (and are being constructed) around the waterway.

There are also several bridges that cut the opposite banks of the waterway. And these bridges have their own names and themes

Wave Bridge

Kelong Bride

Adventure Bridge

Sunrise Bridge

The bridge at the East Entrance of Coney Island

And a lot more are coming....

These bridges not only allow joggers, cyclist, residents and explores to cross to the other side of the waterway. But aside from the bridges being functional they also add an aesthetic value, making the waterway more pleasing to the eye.

The design of the path along the waterway, has this "zen-ness" about it. Its fluid, not too straight not too curved. As it follows the waterway, it bends and flows as well, keeping in perfect balance and synchronicity with the waterway.

The waterway's design is one that combines form and function seamlessly. Form being a refreshing oasis for nature, wildlife and the residents who live along its banks. Function acting as a connection between the 2 main water reservoirs of Singapore that aid to the country's water supply.

It's a beautiful place to explore and walk or jog around. And a beautiful patch of green amongst the many buildings that surround it.
