How to Properly Dispose of a Bamboo Toothbrush

So I've been using bamboo toothbrushes for quite sometime now, and I realised I haven't really done a blogpost on how to dispose of the properly. It can be a bit tricky, because of the nature of the materials that have gone in making the bamboo toothbrush.

So how do you get it from this:

To this:

You just have to keep in mind that even though it is called a bamboo toothbrush, not all its parts are made of bamboo. The bristles are made of nylon, just like regular toothbrushes. So to properly dispose of this toothbrush, you first have to take out the nylon bristles first.

Nylon bristles

*By the way after I use my toothbrushes for my oral hygiene, I use it for cleaning so that's why the bristles on the picture below, look the way they look.

Take them out first!

All you need to do is to get a pair of pliers and remove the nylon bristles one by one from the bamboo handle of the toothbrush.

Pull them out one by one.

So once you're done taking the nylon bristles out, you're left with 100% bamboo. But wait, where do you put the discarded nylon bristles?

100% bamboo handle

If your locality practises proper recylcing and garbage collection you can go to the local recylcing facility and have them dispose of the nylon bristles for you.

Otherwise you can do what I do. I add the discarded nylon bristles to my ecobricks (plastic bottles with plastic waste tightly packed in them. This isn't a "real" solution to plastic pollution, but at least it keeps all the plastic, especially the small ones in one place.

*I'll make a blogpost on who you can give your ecobricks to in Manila, Philippines soon! I trust them the most out of everyone else in the market!

I add them to my ecobrick!

So once you are left with the bamboo handle all you need to do now is either to upcycle the bamboo handle (I make them into markers in my her garden, I'll make a blogpost on that soon too), or add them to you compost pile or just leave them on the soil so it can biodegrade and return to the earth!

Time to return to the earth....
And there you have it. The way to dispose of a bamboo toothbrush properly! :)
